Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts

Share your passion with the next generation

Secondary school teachers can have a profound influence on the lives of young people. They challenge, encourage and inspire. They appreciate the Arts as vital to a well-rounded education.

Develop your digital capabilities in our eLearning Program – the first and only one of its kind for Education students in Australia. We will show you how to use your own iPad with pencil and keyboard to its full teaching potential so you can earn Apple Teacher status. You might even do your first year placement in an Apple Distinguished School.

Our Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts provides a unique pathway to a rewarding career.

What will you do?

You’ll build deep understandings of the subjects you intend to teach, selecting from:

  • Economics
  • English
  • Geography
  • History
  • Languages (Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian Japanese, Modern Greek, Spanish)
  • Linguistics (EAL/D)
  • Legal Studies (minor only)
  • Mathematics
  • Media
  • Music teaching#
  • Psychology

You’ll also:

  • explore educational issues, curriculum and practice relevant to the secondary years
  • work with inspiring teachers and researchers
  • gain professional experience and connections through extensive school placements.

Where could it take you?

You’ll graduate fully qualified to register as a secondary teacher Australia-wide. If you’d like to teach overseas, your degree will be valid in most other countries. An education background will also prove invaluable in a wide range of careers servicing communities outside of the classroom.

# When applying for the music teaching major (SATAC code 354441), you also need to attend and pass an audition/interview and a musicianship test. Selections are made on the basis of audition/interview scores combined with academic achievement and the musicianship test score. It is possible to audition for more than one instrument or study area if you have multiple interests/skills. Please find dates and deadlines, as well as the audition registration form, at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

Note: On-campus attendance is required for courses in this program. If you are a continuing student in the program and are unable to attend campus, please contact the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics for program advice.
